C64 Music 01 – Not just for Old Heads

Alright, time to post another post! It’s been a minute since I last posted, I know – I’ve been at times distracted with games, at other times distracted with some RL things, and at other times just … distracted (for example, I’m still keeping a close eye on the Twin Galaxies Billy Mitchell dispute thread – 310+ pages long now!)

So, just so that I can say I posted something, I thought I’d dive into the world of Commodore 64 music – a topic that is becoming more and more obscured with the passage of time. Truth be told, my first console was a SNES when I was a teenager, but my first *anything* was a Commodore 64, and god-damn … that system was really awesome. The sheer range of the titles (we had access to hundreds due to knowing a “pirate” – arrrr mateys), the types of games that I was exposed to – in all honesty, I was way more attached to the C64 than my brothers. I truly feel that my intellect was nurtured & sharpened by this magnificent machine. Can’t say that about the new computers – they’d never let you look under the hood like a C64 could.

But I’m getting off track here. The Commodore 64 was launched in the early 80’s, and boasted an affordable price tag, along with superior hardware for the home consumer (at the time). Sometimes though, even though the games took an eternity to load (LOAD”*”,8,1 – wait about five minutes – READY. RUN), you didn’t want to start the games too quick. Sometimes … the intro music was too sick to skip.

Here is a list of 5 beautiful C64 intro themes – this will be an ongoing series of posts, like my emulation posts. No, they won’t be listed in terms of score/opinion: just enjoy them. If you liked them too, let me know 🙂
